1. PRIVATE, UNCROWDED, TROPICAL BEACHES

Seabrook Island boasts 3.5 miles of private, uncrowded (and dog friendly!) beaches along the Atlantic Coastline, open only to residents and guests on the island. Gentle waves lap the shore, the hard packed sand is perfect for building sandcastles, riding bikes and taking long beach walks, and the beaches on Seabrook Island offer coastal experiences unique to the island.

One of the most unique experiences on Seabrook Island is “strand feeding”. Cap’n Sams Inlet separates Seabrook & Kiawah Island and is one of the few places in the world where you can witness dolphins strand feeding in groups along the tidal creeks and marshes. From May to October, Loggerhead sea turtles make their home on Seabrook Island to nest and then their hatchlings make their way to the Atlantic Ocean so wildlife viewings are a regular occurrence when you walk the pristine shoreline on Seabrook Island.

Seabrook Island is also one of the few places on the east coast where you can ride horses along the beach! Whether you’re an experienced rider, or beginner to the saddle, the Seabrook Equestrian Center has a horseback riding experience for the whole crew.

Seabrook Island has luxury resort amenities for every type of traveler. The Seabrook Island Beach Club boasts two spectacular oceanfront pools and a private beach with loungers, cabanas and ocean views comparable to the Caribbean. After one session of activities and adventures at Camp Seabrook, they’ll be begging for more!

The Seabrook Island Lake House, located near the Racquet Club and Equestrian Center, offers visitors a different view of the island. Nestled on the shoreline of Palmetto Lake, the Lake House features a state of the art fitness center with daily classes, basketball courts and playgrounds, and a scenic lakeside pool and sundeck set in Lowcountry landscapes.

3. WORLD-CLASS GOLF & TENNIS FACILITIES

Seabrook Island has it all! Miles of pristine, dog friendly beaches, luxury oceanfront amenities, and world-class golf and tennis facilities. Seabrook Island is home to two eco-friendly, Audubon-certified golf courses offering 36-holes of unique and challenging play for all skill levels, and both recently renovated by Rees Jones, Inc.

The Ocean Winds Golf Course, designed by Willian Byrd, lies oceanfront on the Atlantic Coastline and the Crooked Oaks Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed course, weaves through the ancient oaks, marshes, maritime forests and Lowcountry landscapes of Seabrook Island. In addition, golfers have a state of the art practice facility with PGA professional instructors at the Seabrook Island Club, and five world-class golf courses on Kiawah Island, including the award-winning Oceans Course ranked one of America’s Greatest Public Courses by Golf Digest.

If tennis is your game, the Seabrook Island Racquet Club is consistently voted one of the “Top 25 US Tennis Resorts” by Tennis Magazine, with state of the art facilities, 15 professionally maintained clay courts including four night courts, a porch for viewers, and tennis camps and programs throughout the year.

Live Oaks and towering Palmettos line the pathways, dolphins frolic in the waterways, rustic trails wind through the old dunes and forests with an abundance of birdlife and wildlife, and scenic overlooks offer spectacular views of the untouched natural coastline of Seabrook Island.

Whatever your idea of adventure, you’ll find it here on Seabrook Island. Seabrook Island Dog Friendly Vacation Guide

Taking a family vacation should not require leaving your furry family members behind! Seabrook Island is a pup’s paradise – a dog friendly destination where pups can shop & dine with their favorite humans, embark on tail wagging outdoor adventures, and play on one of the top dog friendly beaches on the South Carolina coastline all year round – yes, your water-loving pups are welcome even in peak season!

Our guide to a dog friendly vacation on Seabrook Island has all you need to plan the perfect beach vacation on South Carolina’s Atlantic Coast for the whole family, including your beloved companion

SEABROOK ISLAND LEASH LAWS

One of the top attractions for pet-lovers to Seabrook Island is the local rules for dogs! Your furry family member is welcome across the island (leashed and under your command!), and the beautiful beaches on Seabrook Island are dog-friendly year-round.

Seabrook Island is a pristinely preserved wildlife sanctuary and critical habitat for nesting loggerhead sea turtles and threatened piping plovers, who view your beloved companion as a predator. A clear, color coded system is in place restricting access in designated areas protected for wildlife, nesting and dolphin stranding on Seabrook Island.

  • Red Restricted Zone: The Red Zone is from Boardwalk 1 at the Oyster Catcher Community Center north to Captain Sams Inlet (a top spot for viewing dolphin’s strand feeding). Your pets are not permitted at any time, on or off leash.
  • Yellow Limited Restricted Zone: The Yellow Zone is from Boardwalk 9 at Pelican Watch to the Edisto River and up to Privateer Creek. Your pets may play year round on the beach but must be leashed at all times.
  • Green General Beach Area: This is the fun zone as the stretch of beach between the Pelican Watch boardwalk and Oyster Catcher boardwalk is the place for pets to play on Seabrook, year-round! In peak season (April 1 – September 30) pets must be leashed from 10:00AM to 5:00PM to respect other beach-goers, off-peak (October 1 – March 31) Your dog is free to roam, catch sand balls and play in the ocean.

Regardless of the rules in place, please help us to maintain and protect the wildlife sanctuary on Seabrook Island. Keep your pet in close voice command, leashed around nesting grounds, off the protected dunes, and close by around the Seabrook Island lagoons and lakes as your dog may encounter an alligator basking in the sun. Seabrook Island is one of the few places on the east coast where you can horseback ride on the beach – please leash up if you come across riders enjoying one of the most unique experiences on Seabrook Island!

The beaches on Seabrook are patrolled regularly by Beach Patrol and letting your dog loose at the wrong time, or in the wrong place, will result in a hefty fine!

THINGS TO DO WITH YOUR PET ON SEABROOK ISLAND

Beach Day & Ocean Play: Now you know where your pup can play, pack a beach bag and head to Seabrook Island’s pet friendly Atlantic shoreline. Your pup will love exploring on sunrise strolls, frolicking in the gentle waves, digging in the soft sand, and lounging in the warm Lowcountry sunshine.

If you’re venturing to nearby Kiawah Island, Beachwalker Park is a fun place for pups to play. Kiawah Island leash laws require your pup to be on a leash in season (March 16 to October 31), with freedom to explore the shoreline off-leash out of season (November 1 to March 15).

Water Adventures with your Pup: If your water loving pup is keen for more than ocean adventures on the shoreline, it’s time to get on the water. While many local outfitters in Seabrook Island prefer no pets on public water tours and activities, booking a private fishing charter, dolphin tour or kayak adventure will give your pup the chance to experience the serene waterways and natural beauty of Seabrook Island.

Shopping & Spa Days: Pets are part of the family at Freshfields Village! You’ll find plenty of stores that welcome leashed pets for shopping (look for the pet-friendly decals)) with tasty treats for your shopping companion, outdoor water bowls, and pet-loving staff. Stop by the award-winning Dolittle’s for pet treats, toys, goodie bags, or indulge your pup in an after beach rinse off at Dolittle’s Dog Wash!

Pooch-Friendly Patio Dining: Freshfields Village is also the place to go for pooch-friendly patios on Seabrook Island – the pet-friendly decals will let you know where to find a seat with Fido. A few of our favorite outdoor patios in Freshfields are King Street Grille for beers & burgers, Cantina 76 for award-winning Mexican, Fuji for authentic sushi, and Ladles for fresh homemade soup.

If you’re looking to party with your pup, the Tattooed Moose is a funky tavern on the road to Charleston with famous duck fat fries, happy hour six days a week, live music on weekends & Wednesdays, lazy Sunday brunches and a pet-friendly porch.

Picnic & Play on Village Green: The Village Green at Freshfields Village is a hub of activity year-round with classic car parades, family festivals, enticing farmers markets, and open-air music events that all welcome your well-behaved and leashed travel buddy. Pack a picnic, people watch and enjoy the top events on Seabrook Island with your pup alongside.

Spring Dog Pool Party: If you’re visiting Seabrook in Spring, we’ve got the pawfect event for you! Bring your pooch along for an afternoon of playtime at the Spring Dog Pool Party in the outdoor pool at the Seabrook Island Lake House. A Seabrook Island amenity card, dog food donation, and playful pup is all that’s required.

Charleston Tea Garden: The nearby Charleston Tea Garden is the only tea garden in North America and the only destination in the US where tea is grown commercially. 7 Reasons To Spend The Holidays On Seabrook Island

Seabrook Island Coastline

Come and embrace the holiday season on Seabrook Island, a private, pet-friendly paradise where sunny shores, serene landscapes, and stress-free days in nature redefine your seasonal celebrations. Unlike the traditional winter scenes in many parts of the country, this coastal haven promises a winter holiday filled with warm weather, beach bonfires, delectable seafood feasts, and a multitude of festive holiday events. If you need a change of pace, consider planning an easy day trip to Charleston, where the city’s vibrant charm adds a delightful twist to your holiday experience.

Join us as we explore 7 reasons why Seabrook Island should be your chosen destination for this year’s festive season.

1. Warm Weather Beach Days

While much of the country is shivering with cold, the coastal islands of South Carolina promise a different kind of winter experience. South Carolina’s Seabrook Island embraces visitors with mild temperatures and consistent sunshine in the winter months, offering a welcoming escape from the cold. Over the holidays, expect lows around 400F and highs up into the mid-60s, perfect temperatures for outdoor activities and winter beach days. The water may be too chilly for a swim, around 600F, but the beaches are wide open for kite flying, beachcombing, sandcastle building, beach walks, or simply laying on a cozy blanket with a good book, soaking in the soothing ocean views and rhythmic sounds of the waves. The perfect recipe for a serene holiday escape.

2. Seek Solace From Seasonal Stress

Speaking of serenity, Seabrook Island is shielded by the privacy of its gated community and offers the ultimate opportunity to retreat to calm amidst the holiday chaos! Here, you’ll find no bright lights or bustling crowds, only pristine beaches, enchanting maritime forests, and free-roaming wildlife. It’s a destination where you can truly seek solace from seasonal stress and connect with the peace that only nature can provide.

That doesn’t mean you’ll be bored! Seek solace hiking and biking the island’s nature trails, teeing off on Seabrook’s Audubon-certified golf courses, horseback riding on the beach, paddling the waterways, mastering the art of pickleball, or having fun reconnecting as a family with games, movie nights, and holiday feasts in your coastal holiday home.

3. It’s Seafood Season

While it’s always seafood season on the South Carolina coastline, the best oyster harvests happen in the winter when the water is cooler. Imagine leisurely waterfront meals of succulent shrimp fresh from the Atlantic, tender blue crab plucked from the pristine tidal marshes, and Bluefin Tuna caught at their peak of flavor. Keen to catch your own? Winter is a great time to book a guided Lowcountry fishing charter!

For the ultimate holiday highlight, indulge in a traditional Lowcountry oyster roast. For a seafood extravaganza local to Seabrook Island, we suggest the world-famous Salty Dog Café at Bohicket Marina for a casual setting, the Jasmine Porch at The Sanctuary for authentic Lowcountry charm, or The Atlantic Room at The Ocean Course, Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s signature seafood restaurant. Our guide on Where to Eat Oysters on Seabrook Island has all the local scoop!

4. Beach Bonfires & S’mores

Immerse yourself in the magic of the holidays on Seabrook Island with a heartwarming beach bonfire experience. Step out from your oceanfront vacation rental and create cherished memories of storytelling, stargazing, and roasting s’mores over crackling flames as the waves gently lap the shore. While you’re guaranteed a good time, remember to respect the rules to preserve the island’s fragile ecosystem – leave only footprints and take away only memories.

To make this magic happen, you’ll need to secure a permit from the Seabrook Island Security Gatehouse. It’s a simple process, and well worth it! Click HERE for a Beach Fire Permit Application.

5. Holiday Fun at Freshfields Village

Just a leisurely bike ride from Seabrook Island, Freshfields Village is the hub of shopping, dining, and entertainment for Kiawah & Seabrook, and the beating heart of holiday joy! This charming village offers a delightful holiday event calendar with strolling carolers, live music, and fun family festivities that capture the true spirit of the season.
