How To Bike Around Seabrook Island

Situated only 25 miles from downtown Charleston, Seabrook Island is a luxury gated community open only to residents and guests staying on the island. From the moment you arrive on Seabrook Island, you’re immersed in natural beauty, pristine landscapes, and a pace of life that forces you to slow down and switch to vacation time.

Seabrook Island encompasses 2,200 acres of serene marshes and tidal creeks, semi-tropical maritime forests, and 3.5 miles of secluded oceanfront splendor with world-class resort amenities and an abundance of eco-friendly nature-inspired activities. The best part of your vacation – you don’t need to load up the car to explore the sights, sounds, and serenity of Seabrook Island.

Biking around Seabrook Island is a safe, fun, and relaxing way for the whole family to explore the island and get some exercise on vacation! The roads and quiet side streets are paved, flat, and shaded with gorgeous live oaks draped in Spanish Moss and the speed limit is slow (and enforced) making it safe – just watch out for local wildlife along the way.

Bikers have the right of way on the traffic islands and the speed limit of 25 MPH is strictly enforced keeping the road safe for cyclists to explore Seabrook Island. Please follow the rules of the road, for your safety and the safety of others.

  • Come to a complete stop at every STOP sign.
  • Cyclists have the right of way on traffic islands.
  • If the bike path ends, ride a single file on the right-hand side of the road.
  • Alert other cyclists and pedestrians as you approach.
  • Cyclists are required to have lights after dark.
  • Do not bike on the golf courses or cart paths.
  • Please do not approach, touch or feed local wildlife.
  • Bikes may not be ridden on the beach boardwalks.
  • E-bikes are allowed on the island but prohibited on the beach. Seabrook Island is a pet-friendly community, please keep your pets on a leash.

First off, pack light and rent a bike locally for your Seabrook Island vacation. Seabrook Exclusives partners with locally owned and operated Surfscooter Rentals to offer our guests a 5% discount on bike rentals and add-ons for the whole family to cruise the island. Bordered only by rolling dunes and sea oats, stretches of maritime forest, and luxury Lowcountry homes, the beaches on Seabrook Island are idyllic for a beach bike ride or a whole-day adventure. Begin your day with a sunrise and dolphin strand feeding experience at Captain Sams Inlet, search for nesting sea turtles along the shoreline, and cruise through warm ocean breezes all the way to Privateer Point near Camp St. Christopher.

For a romantic sunset bike ride, Pelican Beach (aka Sunset Beach) is the place to be. Biking on the beaches is always best after a high tide and, wherever you stay on Seabrook, you’re either oceanfront or only a short bike ride to beach access.

If you’re not staying oceanfront, there are 8 public boardwalks on Seabrook Island to access the beach for a bike ride – please do not ride bikes on the boardwalks!

Seabrook Island Road loops for 7 miles around the island connecting the top Seabrook Island resort amenities including the oceanfront pools and restaurants at the Beach Club, the Island Club and golf courses, fitness and leisure facilities at the Lake House, tennis and pickleball at the Racquet Club, and horse riding at the Equestrian Center. Seabrook Island is one of the few places on the east coast where you can ride bikes and horses on the beach!

When you vacation with Seabrook Exclusives, most of our luxury Seabrook Island rentals include amenity cards for guests to access all Seabrook Island Club amenities! If not included, amenity cards may be purchased for an additional fee. Learn more about Seabrook Island Amenity Cards HERE
