Top 10 Reasons to Vacation on Seabrook Island

Savor time with loved ones, bask in the beauty of nature and start vacation traditions of your own on Seabrook Island. On Seabrook Island time moves slower, the lifestyle is good, and you’re guaranteed to go home relaxed, restored, and rejuvenated, but that’s not the only reason to visit Seabrook!

Here’s our top 10 reasons to put Seabrook Island on the top of your must visit destinations for a memorable vacation, any time of year!

1. PRIVATE, UNCROWDED, TROPICAL BEACHES

Seabrook Island boasts 3.5 miles of private, uncrowded (and dog friendly!) beaches along the Atlantic Coastline, open only to residents and guests on the island. Gentle waves lap the shore, the hard packed sand is perfect for building sandcastles, riding bikes and taking long beach walks, and the beaches on Seabrook Island offer coastal experiences unique to the island.

One of the most unique experiences on Seabrook Island is “strand feeding”. Cap’n Sams Inlet separates Seabrook & Kiawah Island and is one of the few places in the world where you can witness dolphins strand feeding in groups along the tidal creeks and marshes. From May to October, Loggerhead sea turtles make their home on Seabrook Island to nest and then their hatchlings make their way to the Atlantic Ocean so wildlife viewings are a regular occurrence when you walk the pristine shoreline on Seabrook Island.

Seabrook Island is also one of the few places on the east coast where you can ride horses along the beach! Whether you’re an experienced rider, or beginner to the saddle, the Seabrook Equestrian Center has a horseback riding experience for the whole crew.

2. LUXURY RESORT AMENITIES

Seabrook Island has luxury resort amenities for every type of traveler. The Seabrook Island Beach Club boasts two spectacular oceanfront pools and a private beach with loungers, cabanas and ocean views comparable to the Caribbean. Guests can dine oceanfront at Pelican’s Nest, poolside at Cap’n Sams Grill or pick up snacks and drinks from the Seabrook Shoppe. Traveling to Seabrook Island with kids? After one session of activities and adventures at Camp Seabrook, they’ll be begging for more!

The Seabrook Island Lake House, located near the Racquet Club and Equestrian Center, offers visitors a different view of the island. Nestled on the shoreline of Palmetto Lake, the Lake House features a state of the art fitness center with daily classes, basketball courts and playgrounds, and a scenic lakeside pool and sundeck set in Lowcountry landscapes.

3. WORLD-CLASS GOLF & TENNIS FACILITIES

Seabrook Island has it all! Miles of pristine, dog friendly beaches, luxury oceanfront amenities, and world-class golf and tennis facilities. Seabrook Island is home to two eco-friendly, Audubon-certified golf courses offering 36-holes of unique and challenging play for all skill levels, and both recently renovated by Rees Jones, Inc.

The Ocean Winds Golf Course, designed by Willian Byrd, lies oceanfront on the Atlantic Coastline and the Crooked Oaks Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed course, weaves through the ancient oaks, marshes, maritime forests and Lowcountry landscapes of Seabrook Island. In addition, golfers have a state of the art practice facility with PGA professional instructors at the Seabrook Island Club, and five world-class golf courses on Kiawah Island, including the award-winning Oceans Course ranked one of America’s Greatest Public Courses by Golf Digest.

If tennis is your game, the Seabrook Island Racquet Club is consistently voted one of the “Top 25 US Tennis Resorts” by Tennis Magazine, with state of the art facilities, 15 professionally maintained clay courts including four night courts, a porch for viewers, and tennis camps and programs throughout the year.

4. NATURE TOURS & ACTIVITIES

Visiting Seabrook Island is like stepping back in time. Live Oaks and towering Palmettos line the pathways, dolphins frolic in the waterways, rustic trails wind through the old dunes and forests with an abundance of birdlife and wildlife, and scenic overlooks offer spectacular views of the untouched natural coastline of Seabrook Island.

Whatever your idea of adventure, you’ll find it here on Seabrook Island. From fishing & shrimping charters, guided eco-tours, and self-guided kayak and SUP adventures on the waterways, to pirate cruises for the kids or romantic sunset sails for just the two of you, there’s not shortage of tours and activities to experience the wildlife sanctuary of Seabrook Island.

5. PATIO DINING & LOWCOUNTRY CUISINE

The South Carolina coastline is known for its flavorful Lowcountry cuisine, fresh southern seafood, and world-famous Oyster Roasts! The options for eating out on Seabrook Island are endless – dine oceanfront at the Beach Club, on the fairways at the Seabrook Island Club, overlooking the creek at Bohicket Marina, or on a pet-friendly patio at Freshfields Village.

If you prefer to dine in, our Seabrook Island vacation rentals offer modern kitchens, fully equipped with all the essentials for a home-cooked meal or BBQ cookout – or order to go and have your favorite Lowcountry meal delivered to you in the comfort of home.

6. OPEN-AIR SHOPPING MARKETS

Freshfields Village is an open-air shopping market that serves Seabrook & Kiawah Island, located near the main entrance to the island and easily accessible on Seabrook Island’s network of bike paths. Freshfields Village has over 30 stores (including a grocery store for your vacation essentials), a diverse selection of restaurants with outdoor patios for your pooch, salons & spas, and seasonal farmers markets for fresh seafood, local farm produce, and gifts and souvenirs unique to Seabrook Island.

7. FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENTS

Seabrook Island is a family-friendly vacation destination with old-fashioned fun for the whole family. You’ll find fun festive events throughout the year at Freshfields Village, traditional Oyster Roasts at Mingo Point, seasonal fun for the whole family at the Beach Club and Lake House, and loads of family fun on nearby Kiawah Island.

8. CLOSE PROXIMITY TO CHARMING CHARLESTON

Seabrook Island offers visitors the best of both worlds – the natural beauty of the South Carolina sea islands and the urban vibe of historic Charleston, only 25 miles from Seabrook Island. Charleston abounds in Lowcountry charm with cobblestone streets, jasmine scented alleyways and gardens, sidewalk cafes, and an abundance of attractions for visitors to explore alone, or on one of Charleston’s many sightseeing tours. Consistently voted the No. 1 City in the USA, Charleston is worthy of a time slot on your Seabrook Island vacation itinerary.

9. AN ISLAND ESCAPE IN EASY REACH

Seabrook Island is an easy road-trip or flight into Charleston International Airport, only 30 miles from Seabrook Island. With over 30 daily non-stop flights from 37 US cities, including LA, Seattle and Denver on the west coast, easy transportation to Seabrook Island, and beautiful bike paths to get around the island, there’s no reason Seabrook Island is not the #1 travel destination on your bucket list!
